ЕВГЕНИЙ ВАСИЛЬЕВ: ЧТО Я ДЕЛАЮ И ПОЧЕМУ

С самого раннего возраста меня преследовали видения. Это видения вполне обычного свойства, такие бывают у всех - ты погружаешься в свои мысли и перед тобой проходят люди, с которыми работаешь, друзья, музыка и голоса из воспоминаний. Мои видения всегда очень яркие и оживленные, и порой не оставляют меня даже во время дедлайнов и домашних вечеринок. Эти вещи меня всегда так сильно радуют и удивляют, что я хочу поделиться ими с окружающими, тем или иным способом. Вот так я и рисую, не умея этого не делать. То, что вы найде в моих работах - это лихорадочные попытки зафисировать мелькающие вокруг меня изображения, эмоции, звуки и запахи. Вот пять фактов обо мне, которые можно прочитать, а можно сразу идти смотреть мои картинки:


1. Обожаю авторучку. Эта любовь выражается у меня в том, что я постоянно таскаю ее с собой и делаю ей как зарисовки, так и большие журнальные илююстрации.

2. По образованию я журналист. И до сих пор люблю писать. А иллюстратором сделался только потому, что хотел выражаться еще короче - рассказывать целые повести при помощи одной картинки.

3. Я нигде не учился. То есть, учился, но мало. Зато, хоть и мало, но на полную катушку. За что не устаю благодарить Британскую Высшую Школу графического дизайна и всех ее преподавателей.

4. Компьютеры или рисование руками? Последнее мне нравится гораздо больше, несмотря на то, что с моим пятилетним дизайнерским стажем мог бы запросто вссе свои картинки переводить в фотмат psd.

5. Графический дизайн или иллюстрирование? Больной вопрос, на который я всегда отвечаю все-таки в пользу иллюстрации, поскольку рисование для меня - более творческий труд, хотя вместе с тем и более тяжелый.

EVGENI VASILIEV: SKETCHING VISIONS

I've been having visions from my very early days. I think they're like the ones everyone has – you're constantly immersed in your thoughts, picturing people that you saw, friends or people you work with, hearing voices from memories. My personal visions are very lively, graphic, and sometimes don't go away even during deadlines or house parties. And I've always been so impressed by them that I wanted images to express themselves in one way or another. I love drawing not only because it merely expresses your present mood – it also records it for the future. Sometimes it's like photography only with a more personal touch. It's a kind of photography where you can modify faces of characters or composition during the making. So that's my way to say that "I draw because I can't not do it". And what you see in my drawings are the gasping attempts to catch the flow of time, emotions, images, sounds, smells and feelings. Here's five quick facts about me before you get bored and decide not look at my art:

1. I love ballpoint. I use ballpoint pen in illustration and sketching more and more these days. It's a common and flexible instrument for drawing, but at the same time difficult to use when preparing finished works. But the successful results are very amazing.

2. I'm an educated journalist. Previously I loved writing stories and switched to illustration mainly because I wanted to speak short - to tell an entire story with one picture

3. I've got no training,… well, almost. I never got any professional training in illustration, besides a one-year course in Moscow's Higher School of Design, magazine design faculty, where I've been attending illustration as an external student.

4. Life versus computers. I tend to draw by hand now, instead of sitting in front of a computer, because real life is more fun. When I worked as a designer, I used computers a lot, so now it's no trouble for me to fix my hand-drawn images with a couple of mouse strokes. Lots of people make pictures digitally from scratch, but this isn't enough for me.

5. Graphic design versus illustration. I've been working as a designer for about five years, and now I'd like to try making illustrations for a living, because it looks like a more creative job. Although, a harder one, too.
